What is Supported Employment?

Employment is a universal human right enshrined in Article 23 of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights which states that “Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favourable conditions of works and to protection against unemployment.”

Supported employment is a system designed to support people with disabilities, and other marginalised groups, who want to be part of the workforce, to find and keep a job.

At the same time, supported employment helps employers to fill vacancies and build diversity in their workforce by finding the right candidates to meet their individual needs.

Agencies, just like a specialised type of recruitment agency, provide free supported employment services to both employers and jobseekers all over Ireland.

The IASE supports and promotes these agencies across Ireland.

The association also raises awareness about, and promotes, supported employment to jobseekers, employers, policy makers and the general public.

Supported employment is consistent with the concepts of empowerment, social inclusion, dignity and respect for individuals
